Scissor Lift: Which type for which use?

Scissor Lift for hire

A scissor lift provides a steady and safe platform to lift workers and equipment to high heights with ease.

Scissor lifts are free standing and are safer than ladders. They can save you time and money on a construction site. They can hold the weight of four men with tools and reach up to 18 meters high.

There are five types of scissor lifts to choose from:

  1. Hydraulic scissor lift
  2. Diesel scissor lift
  3. Electric scissor lift
  4. Rough Terrain scissor lifts
  5. Pneumatic scissor lifts

Hydraulic Scissor Lifts

Powered by either an electric motor or compressed air hydraulic scissor lifts can be utilised both inside and outside.

Hydraulic liquid is either pushed or drained from cylinder to cylinder allowing the scissor lift to raise or lower as necessary.

Hydraulic scissor lifts are recommended for operation in warehouses, on construction sites and infrastructure projects.

Diesel Scissor Lifts

Diesel scissor lifts are loud machines powered by traditional diesel fuel. Since they emit fumes into the environment and are noisy, diesel scissor lifts are best used in outdoor construction where there is space for ventilation and the noise will not distract other workers. Diesel machines generally come with large platforms which are useful for working in outdoor areas.

Electric scissor lifts are another popular aerial platform machine. An alternative to burning fuel, electric scissor lifts feature a silent, powered drive mechanism. Since they do not emit fumes or noise, electric scissor lifts provide a cleaner solution for indoor spaces, which often have insufficient ventilation. These machines are also less bulky than their diesel counterparts, making them optimal in smaller spaces.

Rough Terrain Scissor Lift

Exclusively designed for outdoor use, rough terrain scissor lifts have a high weight-lifting capacity.. This means they can lift weights like heavy-duty tires. It is well equipped with safety mechanisms such as arrestors and fall restraint. They feature increased power. They have internal combustion engines – either gas, diesel or liquid propane. Rough terrain scissor lifts are ideal for sites with sloping and uneven surfaces. Also, construction sites based in extreme areas. Their function is the same as that of the electric lifts, the only difference being its stable tires designed exclusively for exterior rough and rugged surfaces.

It has the potential to lift several workers to the desired height at once, safely. Rough terrains with its stable customised for such conditions can lift heavy weights up to 50 ft.

Pneumatic Scissor Lifts

Pneumatic scissor lifts are air powered with no electrical or hydraulics resulting in an incredibly clean and maintenance free lift.

They use air pressure to raise and lower the lift, this make them ideal for operations that want to be environmentally friendly and reduce their carbon footprint.
